How to build a material schedule from a 3D model
A practical workflow for turning selected model finishes into a material schedule with sources, quantities, dated prices and explicit unknowns.

Start with the decision, not the swatch
A material schedule connects a design choice to a specific object, a product and the information needed to specify it. A beautiful render cannot tell a contractor the product code, finish, quantity or supplier. Keep those decisions attached to the project as you explore options.
1. Check that the model has selectable parts
Open your model in the 3D Model workspace and select the wall, cabinet or other element you want to edit. Confirm its name and highlighted geometry before changing a finish. A model exported as one merged mesh may not contain separate walls or furniture; separate those parts in your modeling tool and export again when needed.
2. Compare finishes on the same view
Keep the camera position consistent when comparing options. Name each option by the actual choice, such as living room wall warm plaster. A screen color is a design reference, not a physical sample or a guarantee of how the installed finish will look. Check a real sample under the intended lighting before specifying.
3. Record enough information to buy the right thing
For each row, record the object or location, product name, manufacturer, supplier, product code and finish. Attach a source document or supplier link. Add a quantity and unit only when measured or confirmed. Record currency and the date of each price; distinguish unit price from a total.
4. Keep unknowns visible
If a quantity, delivery time or price is not known, leave it marked as unknown. Do not replace it with zero. Check whether prices include installation, delivery and tax before comparing totals. In Dubai, confirm local stock and delivery with the supplier rather than assuming a global catalogue price applies.
5. Review and export with a version
Open Schedule inside the project, resolve missing-information flags where possible, and export the schedule for the intended recipient. Save a model version for the option being issued so the visual and the schedule refer to the same decision. Treat the export as a specification aid requiring professional review, not a certified bill of quantities.
